When the Camera Becomes the Problem
A dash cam earns its money on the worst day of your trip — the bingle in a car park, the rock off a road train, the near miss you want on record for the insurer. Then it sits on your windscreen through forty summer days in the sun, waiting.

That is roughly the point where lithium cells start to swell, lose capacity and eventually split. Supercapacitor cameras are rated for far higher temperatures — the commonly quoted figure is operation above 85 °C — and they do not degrade the same way. Resolution and sensor

Check for a decent wide dynamic range rather than chasing megapixels — most of your footage will be shot into harsh sun, glare or headlights.
Buffered parking mode
Buffered recording keeps a rolling loop in memory and saves the seconds before an impact, not just after. Without buffering, you often get a recording of the aftermath and a clean shot of an empty car park.
Card, GPS and app
Support for high-endurance microSD cards matters more than the maximum capacity printed on the box. Standard cards are not built for the constant write-rewrite cycle and will fail quietly.
